Bronwen Williams

Bronwen Williams is investigating the nuances of cross-cultural living through experimental sound sculpture and installation. Her inter-disciplinary practice is an ongoing examination into her hybrid cultural identity. Through a re-imagining of visual and sonic elements, she is exploring the potential destabilisation of Eurocentricity in the Australian cultural landscape.

She is currently investigating the role of very low frequencies and beat frequencies in the narrative of hybrid experience. She is exploring the construction of mixed-race identities as spaces of vibration, where each marker of identification is in constant flux with the others. Her practice focuses on engaging active listening in the viewer and providing ways of communicating social concerns through sound and material experimentation.

Bronwen Williams is a current Masters of Fine Arts (Research) candidate at UNSW Art & Design after completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts (Honours) in 2015. She has exhibited in group shows at various galleries across Sydney. She has previously collaborated on projects with artist Paul Gazzola and Paul Granjon as part of the ISEA in 2013 and co-curated the NOW now festival 2016 alongside Clayton Thomas, Julia Reidy, Jon Hunter, Brooke Olsen and Del Lumanta.
